Rules and Regulations

By submitting an entry to this contest, applicants ("Applicants") agree to these official rules and regulations and acknowledge that the decisions of MyOuterSpace and Toon Boom Animation Inc. (hereafter known as "MOS and Toon Boom") shall be binding and final in all matters relating to this Contest. Please review carefully.

1. Definition: The "My Outer Space Contest" is scheduled from September 1 until December 23, 2010. It is organized by MOS and Toon Boom

2. Eligibility: Movies ONLY created using Toon Boom Animate PLE software or the Animate Pro PLE are eligible for submission.

Entrants shall create a promotional animation for MOS using one of the three audio tracks that are being provided by the contest organizers. The tracks include William Shatner's voice recordings and supplied music. To download the audio tracks, you must sign up at MOS and register as a citizen of Anteros:

All submitted entries must be produced between September 1, 2010 and December 3, 2010 in order to be eligible.

3. Technical Criteria: All submissions must meet the following technical specifications:

  • QuickTime (MOV) movie format with widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Duration of less than 25 seconds
  • File size not exceeding 8MB
  • Resolution of 854x480 pixels
  • Compressed with the H264 codec
  • Also required, one still image with a resolution of 854x480 pixels, PNG format

4. Registration: Between September 1, 2010 and December 3, 2010, participants will be able to enter the contest using the registration form on Toon Boom's website or as linked to from

Copyrights: By submitting an entry to the Contest, applicants acknowledge and confirm that there exists no other production or development option or agreement in place with respect to the materials being submitted. Additionally, entrants expressly acknowledge that all exclusive worldwide rights, for all media and uses, now known or invented in the future, are granted to MOS and Toon Boom. Entrants acknowledge that William Shatner's voice, the music tracks and all other elements are owned by MOS and/or Toon Boom and/or their partners and may not be used for any other purpose other than the Contest.

In addition, the entrant acknowledges that they are the legal rights holder to any and all elements submitted for this contest and that anything that is not covered by fair-use or parody laws is the property of the entrant, and/or that the entrant has secured appropriate and necessary rights from any third parties and is able to transfer those rights to MOS.

The logos of MOS and Toon Boom are the property of MOS and Toon Boom.

6. Soundtrack: MOS and Toon Boom are providing three audio tracks to create the promotional piece, including music. As specified in Article 5 above, these tracks are the property of MOS and can only be used for the purposes of the Contest. All entries must use one of these sound clips. These sound clips are available only after you register for the contest and follow all rules and instructions related to the contest.

7. Selection: A committee of industry experts including MOS, Toon Boom executives and industry decision makers, will review the submissions and determine which, if any, warrant admission in the final contest. A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 movies will be chosen and submitted to a public vote. The evaluation committee will not have to justify its decisions.

8. Promotion: The authors and rights owners grant to MOS and Toon Boom an exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute the Image(s)/Clip of their respective films in all media, for all purposes it deems necessary.

9. Vote: The selected movies will be posted on Toon Boom's web site and visitors will be able to vote from December 10 until December 22, 2010. The winners will be announced on December 23, 2010. Only one vote per day per entry is allowed.

In the event of a tie (in this case a tie is when two video submissions have received the same rating) then the tie-breaker will be determined by the following method:

  1. Submissions with the highest identical ratings will have their number of votes counted.
  2. The submission with the highest number of votes cast will be determined to be the winner.
  3. After this tie-breaking process, in the unlikely event that two or more submissions still have the same ratings AND number of votes then the winner will be determined by MOS and Toon Boom.

10. Winners: Prizes include:

  • The Winner will receive a job opportunity to work on an MOS Animated series
  • The top two (2) finalists win two online courses provided by Academy of Art University
  • The top ten (10) finalists win a copy of Toon Boom Animate Pro

11. Unforeseen issues and complaints: The contest organizers shall not be liable for any decision that they make related to unforeseen issues and for granting special derogation for requests sent in writing. Participating at the contest implies full agreement with the contest rules, without exception.

If for any reason, the contest is canceled or cannot be administered or completed as planned, MOS and Toon Boom reserve the right at their sole discretion to terminate, modify or/or suspend the contest and to determine the Winners by having the Judges evaluate all eligible entries received prior to the action taken, or as otherwise deemed fair and equitable by MOS and Toon Boom. By entering the contest, applicants agree that should the contest be terminated for any reason, such applicant irrevocably waives any right to seek and / or obtain rescission and/or equitable and/or injunctive relief.
