Rules and Regulations

By submitting an entry to this contest, applicants ("Applicants") agree to these official rules and regulations and acknowledge that the decisions of Toon Boom Animation Inc. and the Quebec Leading English Education and Resource Network (hereafter known as Toon Boom and LEARN) shall be binding and final in all matters relating to this Contest. Please review carefully.

Art. 1. Definition: The “Animated Winter Wonderland Contest” is scheduled from January 17 until April 15, 2011. It is organized by Toon Boom and LEARN.

Art. 2. Eligibility: 2.1 All participants must attend a school in an organization part of the LEARN community and be in grades 3, 4, 5 or 6.
Participants can work in teams of no more than 2.

The following organizations are members of the LEARN community:

Public sector:

  • All nine (9) English School Boards: CQSB, EMSB, ETSB, ESSB, LBPSB, NFSB, RSB, SWLSB, WQSB
  • Littoral School Board (English sector)
  • Cree (English sector)
  • Kativik (English sector)
  • FNEC (English sector)

Private sector:

  • QAIS
  • AJDS
  • Other MELS certified schools offering instruction in English

2.2 Movies ONLY created using Flip Boom Classic software ( are eligible for submission.

Entrants shall create an animation on their favourite winter activity.

All submitted entries must be produced between January 10 and April 1, 2011 in order to be eligible.

Art. 3. Technical Criteria: All submissions must meet the following technical specifications:

  • QuickTime (MOV) movie format
  • Duration of 10 to 20 seconds
  • File size not exceeding 8MB

Art. 4. Registration: Between January 10 and April 1, 2011, participants will be able to enter the contest using the registration form on Toon Boom’s website ( or as linked to from All parents of participating students will need to sign the Application Form available here. Please fax it back duly completed to LEARN for the student’s entry to be considered. Detailed instructions are provided in the form.

Art. 5. Permissions and moral rights By submitting an entry to the Contest, entrants grant to Toon Boom and LEARN permission to display their submission on the web at and The entrant relinquishes their moral rights1 to Toon Boom and LEARN. In addition, the entrant acknowledges that they are the legal rights holder to any and all elements submitted for this contest and that anything that is not covered by fair-use or parody laws is the property of the entrant.

The logos of Toon Boom and LEARN are the property of Toon Boom and LEARN.

Art. 6. Selection: A committee of education experts including Toon Boom executives and education decision makers, will review the submissions and determine which, if any, warrant admission in the final contest. The selected finalists will be submitted to a public vote. The evaluation committee will not have to justify its decisions.

Art. 7. Promotion: The authors and rights owners grant to Toon Boom and LEARN an exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute the Image(s)/Clip of their respective films in all media, for promotional and educational purposes.

Art. 8. Vote: The selected movies will be posted on Toon Boom's web site and visitors will be able to vote from April 4, 2011 until April 14, 2011. The winners will be announced on April 15, 2011.

Art. 9. Winners: Prizes include:

  • The Winner will receive Flip Boom All-Star and Flip Boom Special Edition
  • The Runner-up will receive Flip Boom Special Edition

Art. 10. Unforeseen issues and complaints: The contest organizers shall not be liable for any decision that they make related to unforeseen issues and for granting special derogation for requests sent in writing. Participating at the contest implies full agreement with the contest rules, without exception.

If for any reason, the contest is cancelled or cannot be administered or completed as planned, Toon Boom and LEARN reserve the right at their sole discretion to terminate, modify and/or suspend the contest and to determine the Winners by having the Judges evaluate all eligible entries received prior to the action taken, or as otherwise deemed fair and equitable by Toon Boom and LEARN. By entering the contest, applicants agree that should the contest be terminated for any reason, such applicant irrevocably waives any right to seek and/or obtain rescission and/or equitable and/or injunctive relief.

1 Moral rights are those that permit Toon Boom and LEARN to make changes to the submission, for example, but not exclusive to, correcting spelling errors.
